The Martinez Brothers, Christian and Steve, grew up in the Bronx, raised on their paternal record collection: salsa, Latin jazz, and the disco and house that moved through New York's underground in the seventies and eighties. Their father had been to The Loft and Paradise Garage and took them to their first underground clubs, too („Look, they’re good kids, they’re not gonna drink“ they remember him saying).
So soon they were spinning records in clubs before they were legally old enough to enter them. Even though they call some of the biggest clubs & festival stages their home, it’s spaces „soulful and underground“ with „real OGs“ what they call home.
Our very own Muallem knows something about finding your way into clubs underage, too: Munich-raised, he was sneaking in his teens before taking up DJing, a path that led eventually to Blitz and to Childhood, his label. Launched in 2020, it has operated as a careful, unhurried project: house and techno with a long view, its catalogue including records from DJ Deep, Mr. G, Ed Davenport, and more recently Reduks.
Completing tonight's trio infernale are Power Squad from Berlin. „High Voltage Body Movement" is their claim, and this time, they play their Blitz floor debut after two takeovers of our PLUS floor. Johannes & Lewin are equally adept promoters & DJs and take to our floor, equipped with a wide range of partying experiences and House-leaning grooves.
