Shed, who plays a rare live set in late July, released The Killer in 2012 on 50 Weapons, the label Gernot Bronsert co-runs as one half of Modeselektor. That connection is part of a bigger picture: both are established figures of Berlin's underground, Shed through a sprawling catalogue of aliases, such as EQD, Head High, Wax and many more and a home at Ostgut Ton and Hard Wax's Soloaction; Modeselektor through decades of bending techno, IDM, hip-hop, and bass music into something distinctly its own. It's not just Shed who plays a special set for this occasion, as Gernot plays a rare solo set, too.
Daphni is Dan Snaith's club alias, the same Snaith who records as Caribou, operating on different terms: no band, just records and a curiosity to what a dancefloor can hold. Four albums on his own Jiaolong imprint, from the 2012 debut through to Butterfly this year, drawing on house, disco, Afrobeat, and jazz, all in the colourful écriture that's uniquely Dan Snaith's.
mad miran is one of the younger generations' distinctly eclectic selectors. Born to an Afghan mother and a Moroccan father in the Netherlands, she came to electronic music as a teenager in Amsterdam, obsessively building her knowledge through notebooks of mixes and label discographies, while navigating and balancing a wide range of worlds: musical microcosms, cultural traditions, identities and languages. She spent time at Clone Records, and her sets move between breakbeats, electro, IDM, acid and a lot more: a digger in the truest sense, for whom the records have always come first and completes a night of multifaceted selectors.
