Grown up in Dirkshorn and currently living in Amsterdam, Dutch drummer Wouter Kühne will share the stage with Berlin based musicians Kit Downes and Phil Donkin. The trio will perform a combination of jazz standards and original compositions of all band members.
Wouter Kühne(1996) was born into a musical environment, with both parents being professional musicians. At 13 years of age he was admitted to the Junior Jazz College, a prestigious young talent program at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. In 2014 he started his bachelor studies at the same conservatory, where he graduated summa cum laude in 2018. Meanwhile, he already found himself collaborating with artists like Dick Oatts, Terrell Stafford, Aaron Parks, Joe Cohn, Bob Mintzer, Jason Marsalis, Dennis Mackrel, Benjamin Herman, Joris Roelofs, Jesse van Ruller, Reinier Baas and Maarten Hogenhuis.
In 2017 he won the Sena Performers “Gouden Slifje”, a prize that represents one of most young promising jazz drummers of the moment. In 2019 he moved to New York City to study at the Manhattan School of Music, where musicians like Kendrick Scott, John Riley, Marc Carey and Phil Markowitz were among his regular teachers. Currently based in Amsterdam, Wouter shares the stage regularly with artists like Ben van Gelder, Jasper Blom and Harmen Fraanje. As a timbale player, he is a member of both the quartet and timba formation of Cuban Singer Evelyn Dupuy, playing traditional and modern Cuban music.
