Presented during the 15th anniversary of Berlin Art Week, REMAINS marks Fabien Dettori’s tenth exhibition in Berlin.
Curated by Mario Bermel, who organized the artist’s first exhibition in Germany, the exhibition brings together new works made specifically for Berlin with works recently presented in Venice during the Biennale.
Working ...Mehr anzeigen across photography and painting, Dettori begins with an authentic moment, then progressively removes the image from its original reality through pigment, varnish, gold leaf and material intervention.
Still lifes and intimate portraits draw on the legacy of art history while moving toward something less descriptive and more unstable: memory, absence, residue.
In Berlin, a city shaped by rupture and reconstruction, REMAINS considers what survives an image after it has been transformed.
What remains is not the image.
