Talk about making a quick buck! Well I aint complaining, its been quite a stressful week with recordings and gigs and bookings and what not so well, we didn’t really mind the early finish. It also gave me a chance to catch up with an old friend. But more on that later.
We started from Karlsruhe a bit later than usual, I had to put in some extra hours at work yesterday. The traffic was thick already and we were still only in Karlsruhe! But since Dubliner provided us with all the equipment we needed, we didn’t have to rent a car and therefore drove in Mo’s maybach, lol. It wasn’t a very comfortable drive though, Martino and I had to hold on to the guitars in the back and Markus in the front. But as it was only going to be a short drive, about 45 minutes, it wasn’t that big a deal. And since I had come up with a new nickname for Martin, ‘HE-MAN’ because of his ever growing blonde locks, the ride there became quite entertaining with Mo humming the theme music from the TV show throughout the way :D.
Now the pub wasn’t exactly what we had expected. For one, it wasn’t very irish to begin with. The Décor was more of a 60’s styled jazz pub you would find in the US. The classy white grand piano embodied that feel to perfection. It was quite a refreshing change really from what we had seen before on our tour. We set our stuff up quickly, ordered our drinks and food and got ready for the evening ahead.
Now our audience for the evening was a little older than what we have encountered so far on the tour. Not that it was a negative. Quite the contrary. We adapted our set accordingly, leaving a couple of heavier modern numbers out and playing some well known classic songs instead. It worked pretty well, judging from the crowd’s response. They also seemed to enjoy our original stuff which they thought was ‘fresh and different’. The younger members of the audience were already having their fun, singing along and helping me out, on occasions, with the lyrics :P. We only got to play 2 sets last night, instead of the usual 3 because of the snappy neighbours! However that did give us a chance to interact with the crowd, load up on some pints and enjoy the rest of the evening before we had to drive back out. We also ended up meeting some interesting people last night, musicians and listeners alike, had a little chat and made some new friends. After all, isn’t that what the pub experience is all about? A fun night definitely, a big shout goes out to Heidi who booked us for the gig and also a very special thanks to Lena and her pretty gals for driving all the way to Offenburg just to watch us play. It made our nightJ. See you again sometime soon Offenburg! Next Stop 17th March, O Sullivan’s Karlsruhe, its back home for St.Patrick’s Day!!!
