Tournachlese / DEATH THREATS EP ab heute im Handel

Mitte September war der irische Troubadour THE MIGHTY STEF aka Stefan Murphy erstmals in Deutschland auf Solo-Tour. „Es war mal etwas anderes, nach dem Festivalsommer wieder ohne die Band zu spielen – es hat viel Spaß gemacht!“ – so sahen es auch die zahlreichen Zuschauer bei seinen insgesamt sieben Konzerten. (Ein kleines Interview findet ihr weiter unten!)

Den denkwürdigsten Gig der Tour spielte er wohl bei der Tönisvorster Rocknacht in der Nähe von Düsseldorf: Zwischen zwei lokalen Grindcore/Crossover-Acts stand er nur mit Gitarre und seiner Stimme bewaffnet auf der Bühne. Ein paar flotte Sprüche und zwei Songs später hatte er das Publikum auf seiner Seite und es wurde kräftig mitgesungen und geklatscht! „Die Leute dort waren wirklich fantastisch!“

Die Deutschlandtour war auch gleichzeitig der Auftakt zu einem turbulenten Herbst: „Direkt nach den Gigs in Deutschland bin ich für 3 Shows nach Norwegen geflogen und am kommenden Wochenende geht’s für ein paar Gigs rüber nach England.“

Am heutigen Freitag, 2. Oktober erscheint seine DEATH THREATS EP in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz. Die „4 folk songs about modern Ireland“ sind „a polite fuck-off to the people in society who think that you should fear them.“ Dass er sich hierbei nicht zu ernst nimmt, ist spätestens im sehenswerten Video zur gleichnamigen Single (auch hier auf dem Profil!) zu sehen.

Mitte Oktober geht es dann für einige Gigs in die USA bevor Stef im November zurück in Deutschland ist. Diesmal nicht solo, sondern unterstützt von seiner Band.

Interview

Frage: How did you like your first tour over Germany?
Stef: “I really enjoyed touring around Germany, it was an absolutely great experience and I look forward to doing it again soon.”

Frage: Was it different for you to play without a band again?
Stef: “It was different but a whole lot of fun.. If somebody was to ask me which I preferred I’d say that the two experiences aren’t even comparable for me or the audience... With the band it can be all out punk rock but with me alone it can be very unexpected, I kinda make it up as I go along.”

Frage: Did you have a favourite place you played on the tour? And what is your favourite city?
Stef: “Berlin is one of my favourite cities in the world so it was a real thrill to play there, the audience were great, too. On this tour I played a festival in Toenisvorst near Dusseldorf which was a really really memorable gig. The people were amazing there.”

Frage: When will you come back to Germany?
Stef: “I’m coming back in November to play a few shows and to promote my Death Threats EP…”

Frage: The German audience is famous for being "uptight", did you have the feeling as well?
Stef: “I think audiences at acoustic shows can be a little shy, I wouldn’t call them uptight, but most nights by the time I was half-way through the set I had them singing along to the songs and having fun, you Germans are fun people whether you know it or not!!!!”

Frage: Did you have time to listen to some German radio stations and did you like them?
Stef: I didn’t really listen to the radio, we listened to Fleet Foxes a lot in the car.

Frage: What do you think of the German music scene? Is it different to the Irish?
Stef: The german music scene seems really good and really organized. There is a lot of media available to smaller acts as well as larger ones, that makes it easier than Ireland, Ireland is quite small.
